Jori is a self-taught photographer with a passion for organically capturing the world around her. She mainly shoots while traveling, discovering the personality of each destination through her lens. Special focus is given to capturing light patterns, small unnoticed details, random pops of color, and intimate unscripted moments. She is always searching for old doors, moody clouds, long corridors, architectural lines, and visual layers.  Jori views her work as a photographic diary of her experiences and explorations and strives to have each image tell its own story or point of view.

Jori’s love of exploration began at an early age as her family moved often during her childhood. She spent her first few years in the Chicago suburbs before moving to Mexico City for four years of elementary school. It was there that the colorful sights and sounds of the bustling city streets captured her attention.   Her family’s adventures also took her to the beaches of Baja California and Acapulco, the Aztec pyramids, and the artistic cities of San Miguel Allende, Tequisquiapan, Taxco, Cuernavaca, and Puebla, each impacting her attention to moments of visual interest.

Her family’s return to the United States included time spent living in Wisconsin, Texas, Georgia and Florida.  It was during these years that she acquired her first camera - a red Konica point and shoot - and started capturing life around her. Jori returned to her Chicago roots for college, receiving a degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  During her time at Northwestern, she was able to expand her skills utilizing a darkroom, learning how to develop film and make prints.

After college, Jori moved to New York City where she began a career in marketing and sales, primarily working at companies focused on brand management, internet advertising and consumer products. Her love of exploration and photography continued with travels to Ireland, Norway, France, Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, India, Canada, the Pacific Northwest, and across New England. She eventually left the work force and big city to raise her two children with her husband, settling down in southern Connecticut. During these early years, she focused more on personal photography, capturing precious candid moments of her children.

In 2018, Jori launched a vacation rental business on beautiful Whidbey Island in Washington. By combining her marketing background with her love of photography, she has been able to increase her customer reach as well as connect with local islanders through her business Instagram account. She uses her island photography as a story-telling vehicle to market and sell the “Whidbey Experience" in order to grow and enhance her real estate business.

Today, Jori continues to find opportunities to explore the world with her camera in hand, with recent travels taking her to the Middle East, South Pacific, Denmark, England, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Austria. Her greatest joy is her family - she cherishes every chance they have to experience traveling together. At home, Jori stays busy with family life, competitive tennis, walking her beloved dog Freddie, and is always dreaming of her next adventure.

Jori’s photography has been featured in juried exhibitions at Loft Artist Association, Pequot Library, Rowayton Art Center, Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut and Art Center East.  Her photograph “Resting Love” won ‘Best in Show’ in the 2023 Art Center East 12th Annual Juried Photography Exhibit.   She is an Exhibiting Member at Rowayton Art Center.
